Zat Knight says bring on Everton
ZAT Knight has sounded a battle cry ahead of this weekend’s cup clash against Everton, claiming Wanderers are in the mood to cause an upset.
After back-to-back clean sheets, the big defender says the camp is in confident mood ahead of the fourth round encounter.
And though David Moyes’ men have been enjoying an impressive campaign vying for Champions League qualification, Knight reckons the timing could be right for the Toffees to come unstuck.
“Bring them on,” he told The Bolton News. “It’s probably going to be our biggest test this season because this is the best team we will have faced.
“But when you are playing well, you want to play anyone, regardless of whether it’s the league or the cup.
“Let’s see how well we have come on. We will need to be at our best because they have certainly not done too badly themselves.”
Knight is looking forward to locking horns once again with all-action Belgian international Marouane Fellaini, who has been the driving force behind Everton’s fine first-half of the season with nine goals in 22 appearances.
“I’ve played against him a few times and he’s a real handful,” he said.
“You look at how he is playing in the Premier League and he’s doing very well. He’s probably been their main player.
“But I look at everyone as a test. It was (Glenn) Murray on Saturday at Palace but if it’s Fellaini this weekend, then fine. My target is still to be in the team and getting a clean sheet, the same as it is against anyone.”
Wanderers can also be encouraged that Knight’s defensive partner in the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park last weekend, Tim Ream, is also coming into good form.
The American was rested in the previous round against Sunderland in favour of Sam Ricketts, but Knight would be happy to work with either of his team-mates. “I thought Tim did really well in the last game against Millwall and maybe he would be a bit disappointed to be rested against Sunderland in the last cup game,” he said.
“He did well in there today and he’s doing his best to try and claim a place week-in, week-out.
“I have played with Tim and Sam a lot now, so I think I have got to understand them both.”
