FANS may well be clamouring for Craig Davies to get his chance from the start for Wanderers – but the striker insists he won’t be hammering on his manager’s door just yet.

After scoring twice in his last two games, the former Barnsley striker’s stock has risen sharply in the last week.

But the Wales international is relaxed when asked when his time will come, putting his faith in Dougie Freedman’s judgement.

“I’m just trying to take things in my stride,” he said.

“I want to get settled in the team, work on things I need to work on, and when I start, I start. I am not going to make a fuss about it. The manager will know better than anyone when I’m ready, so at the moment I’m just happy to be getting some game time.”

Davies accepts competition for places up front is fierce with Kevin Davies, David Ngog and Marvin Sordell all trying to nail down a starting place.

The 27-year-old feels confident his chance will come with Wanderers’ games coming thick and fast in the next couple of weeks.

“Maybe earlier in my career I would have worried,” he said. “But what are you going to do? There’s no point moaning – I’m happy with what is going on at the moment.

“You look at some of the players I am competing against and they have done much more than I have in my career, so I’m not about to throw my toys around.

“I will wait until I get my chance and then hopefully I’ll do well.”

Davies feels a point at Forest was just reward for the defensive effort, which he believes could be a bedrock for future success under Freedman at Wanderers.

“We went down to 10 men and we dug in, and I think that’s a sign of the character and the togetherness in the dressing room,” he said.

“You only have to look at what the gaffer did at Crystal Palace, and that was a difficult place to get any sort of result. It was well organised and the team didn’t concede many, and that is what he’s brought here.

“If you look at the team defensively we look steady, I think we look like we’re not going to concede many.

“If we can keep that up and score, we’ll be winning a lot more games than we lose.”
