CHRIS Eagles is not seeking a move away from Wanderers, according to Dougie Freedman.

The midfielder’s absence from the squad to face Peterborough United on Tuesday night set tongues wagging on the terraces after a weekend report had claimed he was unhappy at the club.

The story had claimed a member of Eagles’ family had received abuse from a section of Whites supporters during a recent game, understood to be against Watford at Vicarage Road.

But Freedman – who was unaware of the reports – denied there was any problem with the 27-year-old top scorer, who has started just one of the last four games. “Chris is not well, plain and simple,” he said. “In fact, he gave my ear a rest for the last two days by not being in.

“He comes in every day bouncing about the place. He really does.

“I don’t know what the comments were but he is really happy here, I think.”

Eagles had been virtually ever-present up until the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on February 16, which came a week after his substitution against former club Burnley was applauded by some sections of the Wanderers’ support.

Freedman admits his playmaker is not currently in top form but believes Eagles will soon be back in the first- team picture.

“He is training well, he is playing okay right now, he could play better.

“He is not well but don’t read too much into it. He will be back Thursday."
