WINGER Liam Feeney has just two targets for the remainder of 2013 – to enjoy his football and help fire Wanderers up the Championship table.

The 26-year-old has had a flying start to his loan spell from Millwall and has yet to taste defeat in a Whites shirt in three matches.

His form has been so impressive, it has not only earned praise from his manager Dougie Freedman but also Wanderers fans who are keen for him to extend his stay beyond January. The West Londoner is due to return to the capital in the new year, though his Millwall contract runs next summer.

And after only a handful of appearances under new Lions boss Steve Lomas before his loan switch to the Reebok, there is already speculation he may be open to a transfer when that happens.

But Feeney is not looking too far into the future himself, prefering to concentrate on the here and now and doing his bit for the Wanderers cause.

Feeney said: “I am here for three months and beyond that I don’t really know. It’s not in my hands. I have a contract until the end of the season but I am not trying to focus too much on it.

“I just want to enjoy my football.

“Steve Lomas spoke to me quite a lot before I came out on loan.

“He saw the benefit of me coming out on loan go get games.

“I wasn’t playing much so it’s win-win all round.

“If I do well here hopefully the team will do well, I do well and if Millwall call me back, they will get a better player back for having played more games.

“We did speak a lot and he wished me all the best.

“I am sure he has been keeping an eye on me so we will have to see how it goes.”

Wanderers boss Freedman has hailed his displays as a substitute against Yeovil and then from the start at Blackpool and Birmingham since arriving on a three-month loan last month.

Feeney, too, is happy working with the Scot for the first time.

And while he knows his role out wide may differ game by game, he is enjoying being in the thick of things in the Championship again.

The former non-league star added: “Different managers have different methods and different opinions.

“Chances didn’t come often for me at Millwall but Bolton gave me the chance to play again.

“I played against the manager’s Palace side a few times and I have been around the lower leagues for a few years.

“He said he has known me for years and was pleased to finally work with me which is nice to hear.

“For me it's just good to be playing again.

“At Birmingham, it was a bit of a role reversal for me from Blackpool where early on I saw a lot of the ball but not so much later on.

“Sometimes, when it is a close game, it is hard to get your forward players on the ball and that's what happened last Saturday.

“But in the second half, when the game got stretched, I found myself more on the ball and enjoyed it.

“Hopefully, it will be the same after this international break for me and I can stay involved and in form.”
