Weiss set to be pitched into Burnley battle

NEW loan signing Vladimir Weiss is expected to be thrown straight into the high pressure Lancashire derby against Burnley tomorrow night.

The Slovakia international’s season long move from Manchester City will be ratified this morning, and Owen Coyle has hinted that he will waste no time before pitching him into the heat of battle.

Tensions are bound be high as the Wanderers boss is reunited with the club he guided to the Premier League for the first time in 33 years — just 20 days after taking on the reins at the Reebok.

But with Gavin McCann, Matt Taylor, Mark Davies and Ricardo Gardner all doubts, Coyle has faith that the 20-year-old winger can make a difference in a game that could prove vital in the Whites’ battle against the drop.

“Vladimir is someone I have been tracking for a long time,” he said. “I think he will eventually be a top, top player in a few years time.

“His chances have been limited at City, and I think we can all accept why with the quality they have. He scored a tremendous goal against Arsenal in the Carling Cup and was outstanding in the World Cup game against Northern Ireland.

“The lad has undoubted ability and he’s the type of player I like at the football club.

“He’ll come in with an opportunity to help us stay in the Premier League.”

Weiss turned down a similar move to Premier League rivals Wigan Athletic — and said on Saturday that he had been impressed with Coyle’s desire to bring him to the Reebok.

“I personally spoke with both managers, Mr Coyle and Mr Martinez,” he said.”They are both very sympathetic, so in this aspect it was all-square in my decision-making.

“I would say that the decisive thing is that Bolton were more persistent. When I was going through the club, I thought, ‘okay, this is the right club’.”

US international Stuart Holden will also be officially confirmed as a Wanderers player today, after the club tie up the loose ends of his loan move from Houston Dynamo.

The 24-year-old creative midfielder is due back in training this morning after recovering from a thigh injury but is unlikely to face the Clarets tomorrow night.

And Coyle is equally optimistic that Holden can add something to his squad.

“He’s got the desire and the hunger to do well, so it’s up to him,” he said. “The season has finished in America but he’s one we can give an opportunity to.”

It is also understood that Nicky Hunt’s loan move to Derby County will now be extended until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old full-back has made two appearances for Nigel Clough’s Championship side since moving to Pride Park earlier this month.
