OWEN Coyle wants Wanderers to take the winning mentality from their FA Cup fourth round victory over Sheffield United into tonight’s derby encounter with Burnley.
The Wanderers boss got the monkey off his back after ending his winless start with a 2-0 victory on Saturday which earned his side a home fifth round clash with the winners of the tie between Premier League rivals Tottenham and Leeds of League One.
“It was an important result,” Coyle said. “There were some very good performances and it was good for the boys to get that clean sheet.
“We scored two very good goals and that has got us up and running.
“What we have to do now is take that into the Burnley game and make sure that we are at our best.”
Coyle is expecting nothing but full commitment from his former charges, adding: “There’s no doubt that the Burnley boys will be motivated. I wouldn’t expect anything less from that group of players.
“They will want to come out and show their ability, togetherness and desire.”
Meanwhile, Coyle is waiting on several late fitness tests before deciding his line-up for tonight’s clash. Mark Davies, Ricardo Gardner, Gavin McCann and Matt Taylor all have slight injuries.
There could also be a debut for Vladimir Weiss following his move from Manchester City.
United States midfielder Stuart Holden was also due to sign with the club yesterday, but is nursing a thigh injury and is unlikely to play any part.
