Wanderers suffered a miserable night at Sunderland where they lost 4-0 and had defender Sam Ricketts sent off.
The home side, who hadn't won for 16 games and had plummeted down the Premier League like a stone, showed no sign of their supposed mental fragility as they brushed Owen Coyle's men aside.
Frazier Campbell put the home side ahead in the first minute and they held the lead until 20 minutes from time when Darren Bent doubled the lead. A penalty from Bent four minutes later - awarded for a foul on Bent by Ricketts which resulted in the Wanderers' defender's second yellow card - and an 88th-minute hat-trick goal from the Sunderland striker, capped a miserable night for Wanderers.
