GAVIN McCann may have played his last game for Wanderers after Owen Coyle ruled him out of returning to first team action again this season.

The experienced midfielder, whose last appearance came in the 4-2 defeat against Arsenal in January, has been told he will require surgery to the ankle injury that has plagued him since the turn of the year.

And with his contract due to expire this summer, it leaves a big question mark over the 32-year-old’s future at the Reebok.

Coyle revealed that he did not expect to see McCann in action again before the start of next season.

“Gavin will now need an operation and a lot of rest,” he said.

“He’ll be out certainly for the rest of the season, and then some after that.”

McCann, a £1million signing from Aston Villa in summer 2007, has made 62 starts for the club and scored three goals— winners against Middlesborough in the Premier League and Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Cup and an equaliser against Sporting Lisbon in the same competition.
