GARY Megson has spoken of his anger at being sacked as manager of Bolton Wanderers.

And the 51-year-old has said he is desperate to get a job at another club so he can return with them to turn Wanderers over.

He also accused people who criticise his record while he was the Reebok as “being a bit dense”.

Megson, who is officially on gardening leave from the Reebok club, told the BBC Five Live programme ‘Managers Under Pressure’ hosted by Mark Pougatch of his fury at his treatment.

Megson took over at the Wanderers in October 2007, and succeeded in keeping the club in the Premier League, but was relieved of his duties on December 30, 2009.

“I was really angry,” he said. “When I lost my job at Bolton we were third from bottom, but we were three points from 12th spot with three games in hand.

“Now, I read things about the style of football not being what people wanted. Well, I thought it was good. They wanted more entertaining football, but Bolton now score 50 per cent less goals. They haven’t scored in two thirds of the games they’ve played since I left.

“It does get on my nerves a little bit, because it seems like people are saying ‘well he’s gone, let’s try and justify it now’.

“The overriding emotion that I feel is one of anger. I want to get another football club and I would love to take them to Bolton and turn them over because I feel I was given a raw deal.

“Whether it’s right or wrong, I don’t know, but I’ve got such a desire to get back into a job now and prove quite a few people wrong.

“It’s not bitterness, it’s a drive and a desire. I took a lot of stick at Bolton and the club that I was supposedly taking over was made to sound like it was Real Madrid and yet it had won four games out of its previous 27.

“Yet I kept a club up with a team that had had the worst ever 10-game start in the Premier League.

“While we were doing that, we went further in Europe than we had ever been and yet I still get criticised.

“And I want to scream at people ‘you’re being a bit dense here’. I’m desperate to get another football club and show that this is what the reality is.”
