JOHAN Elmander insists ending his goal misery counts for nothing if Wanderers lose.

The striker equalled his Premier League tally for last season after grabbing his third of the campaign at Arsenal.

Elmander has suffered a wretched two years at the Reebok following his £8.2million move from Toulouse – scoring just 10 times.

But he has made a flying start to the new season and scored three times in Bolton’s opening five games.

The rejuvenated Swede has been delighted with his form – but says taking three points is more important than any personal achievements.

“It doesn’t matter if I score or not because winning the game is what matters and Saturday was a mixed day overall,” said the club-record signing.

“I’m pleased with the way I’m playing and hopefully I can continue scoring and helping the team.

“I scored a few goals in pre-season and that helped to put the wind in my sails and get some early momentum, so I think that is the reason why I've managed to get off to a good start.

“I also have a good manager who believes in me. When you have that trust then it helps you to go out on the pitch and show what you can do.”

And Elmander has backed Wanderers to put the 4-1 defeat at the Emirates – their first defeat of the season – when they travel to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 29-year-old added: “We now have to look to Aston Villa. I think we have a good chance of going there and getting a result if we continue like we have been playing.”
