WANDERERS skipper Kevin Davies has announced the launch of a personal charity to give support to disadvantaged young people in the town.

KiDs of Bolton will be officially unveiled with a golf day at Bolton Old Links on Wednesday, October 20, featuring the likes of Owen Coyle, Jussi Jaaskelainen, Mark Davies, Sam Allardyce, Phil Brown, Amir Khan and entertainers such as Paddy McGuinness and Vernon Kay.

Father of four Davies, who made his England debut on Tuesday night at Wembley, grew up on a council estate in Sheffield and has his first pair of boots bought for him by his manager at under-10 level.

He hopes to give something back to the town he has called home for the last eight years by helping improve the lives of local youngsters with his latest venture.

“I have been in the game a long time and I have seen a lot of letters, and got a lot of contact from people asking for help,” he told The Bolton News. “The club and myself try hard to help everyone but it’s impossible.

“We’re not saying we want to help specific people, it could be any under-18s, or a team that can’t afford a kit, or equipment.

“We want to be able to get money in the pot to help these people if the opportunity arises.

“I’m from a family of six that lived on a big estate in Sheffield, so I know it’s difficult sometimes for your parents to provide. Having boots passed down kept me in the game, so I’d like to help out where I can.”
