STUART Holden has taken his first steps to recovery promising Wanderers fans he intends to be in peak condition when he returns next season.

The 25-year-old American, who has had surgery on the knee he injured in the defeat at Manchester United two weekends ago, returned to the Euxton training ground yesterday determined to stay positive.

“Obviously it has been a tough first week, but I’ve got to crack on and focus on my rehab work and make sure that I’m in good shape for when I return next season,” he said. “It’s not nice but I have to remain positive. People won’t see me feeling sorry for myself.”

Holden said he had been “overwhelmed” by the messages of support he has received from supporters and team-mates.
