Wanderers reserves slipped to only their third defeat of 2011 after losing 1-0 at Liverpool in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North yesterday.

Adam Morgan’s 44th-minute winner ended John Henry’s side’s four-game winning run at Liverpool Academy.

In a scrappy first half, Morgan tested Jay Lynch from the edge of the penalty area before the striker fired wide.

Wanderers’ Michael O’Halloran forced goalkeeper Tyrell Belford into action before Tope Obadeyi failed to convert a Maison McGeechan cross.

And, with four minutes of the first half remaining, Morgan swept home Toni Silva’s pull back to put the hosts in front.

Liam Irwin, making a rare start in place of the suspended Josh Vela, who was sent off against Aston Villa, went closest to a Bolton equaliser when his free kick whistled just wide.

But Wanderers could have no complaints with the result and only a fine save from Lynch denied Morgan grabbing his and Liverpool’s second towards the end.

The reserves will look to end their league season on a winning note when they travel to West Ham on Tuesday in their final game.
