Wanderers have made an ambitious offer to bring Tuncay back to English football.

Owen Coyle has tabled a loan bid to Wolfsburg for the Turkish striker, with a view to making the move a permanent one next summer.

Tuncay was a big hit with fans at Middlesbrough and Stoke City but quit for the Bundesliga in January after falling out with Tony Pulis at the Britannia Stadium.

It is understood that Coyle is very close to agreeing the deal, although sources at the club are claiming it is unlikely the paperwork will be completed in time for the 29-year-old to make his debut against QPR this Saturday.

Tuncay scored 18 goals in two seasons at the Riverside before moving on to Stoke in a £4.5million deal in 2009.

His first team chances were limited at the Potters, however, and he leapt at the chance of becoming Edin Dzeko’s replacement at Wolfsburg when former England manager Steve McClaren came calling at the start of the year.

His move to Germany did not work out as planned, and after being told he can leave the cash-strapped club he is now keen to return to England.

Coyle is also closing in on two more players - Shaun Wright-Phillips and David N’gog.

Having agreed a fee with Manchester City, it is understood significant ground has been made in the last 24 hours over personal terms for England winger Wright-Phillips.

The move is far from being completed, however, with the 29-year-old still undecided over whether he wants to quit Champions League football at Eastlands for more regular first team football with the Whites.

Wigan, Sunderland and Stoke City are also believed to be in the frame for his signature.

Negotiations have also moved on with N’gog, with Wanderers understood to be wearing Liverpool down on their £4million valuation of the French striker.

Coyle wants to pay £3m for the 22-year-old, who has indicated he wants to leave Anfield after failing to gain regular first team football.

Interest in Cameron Jerome has been dropped despite Birmingham City dropping their asking price to £3.5m, from a fee of more than £7m when Wanderers first approached them at the start of the summer.
