JUSSI Jaaskelainen is expected to shake off a thigh strain to reclaim his place in goal against Wigan Athletic this weekend.

The Big Finn missed out on the televised 5-1 defeat to Chelsea because of injury but will return to full training on Wednesday, where his fitness will be assessed by the medical staff.

And Coyle says he will give the veteran keeper every opportunity to take back the number one spot from young stopper Adam Bogdan, who made two high-profile errors at the Reebok last time out.

“Jussi had picked up the thigh strain and being the man he is, was willing to play through it against Chelsea,” the manager told The Bolton News.

“We didn't feel we could take the risk that the injury wouldn't get worse as a result, so he sat that one out.

“He'll come back in with the other lads this week and we'll have a look at how he is doing. But we'll certainly give him every chance of playing against Wigan.”

It was only the second Premier League game Jaaskelainen has missed through injury since the end of the 2007/8 season. And his replacement on that occasion, Ali Al-Habsi, will be between the sticks for the Latics at the DW Stadium.

Plenty rides on the game with Wanderers bottom of the table, just two points behind Wigan, and currently on a run of six straight defeats.
