Rival boss hails Ngog

KENNY Jackett praised David Ngog for giving Wanderers a platform to perform at The Den.

The Millwall boss was full of praise for the French striker, who worked hard in a lone front role and scored the crucial second goal to seal his side’s passage into the quarter-finals.

“Ngog played up front on his own and made the ball stick too many times for me,” he said.

“Top players like that are good when they get their body in the way and don’t give the ball up. The first pass when they get the ball like that secured them possession so many times and it’s something we’ll have to learn from.”

Jackett was also disappointed to have conceded so early, when his defence failed to react to Sam Ricketts’ quick free-kick that led to Ryo Miyaichi’s early goal.

“It was a poor goal to give away and if you give a Premier League side a start like that after three minutes, then you are going to struggle,” he said. “It was poor defensively, we were sleeping a little bit, but was it a foul in the first place? Maybe not.

But they took the free-kick quickly and caught us out.”

Millwall now turn their attention to life near the bottom of the Championship and tough games against Middlesbrough and Burnley in the next week. But Jackett was pleased with his Lions side for pushing Wanderers hard on the day.

“We worked hard to recover our confidence and had a lot of the ball,” he said.

“The corner count was nine to one. We couldn’t make that pay.

“We had a lot of the ball but they dropped off deep and broke at us and just had enough Premier League class to ease us off.”
