OWEN Coyle has called for a fresh start as Wanderers head into the business end of their battle to avoid the drop.

After Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at leaders Manchester City, the Whites remain second bottom of the Premier League, two points from safety.

But the manager went to great lengths to emphasise his team were still just one victory away from escaping the bottom three – and that they have now played all the sides in the top six with the exception of a home game against Spurs.

Wanderers face relegation rivals QPR at the Reebok on Saturday, and play Blackburn Rovers and Wolves before the end of the month.

And that has prompted a galvanising call from Coyle, who is adamant he has enough quality in his squad to pull clear of danger.

“We do have to draw a line in the sand and say ‘This is what your season is all about’,” he said. “There are 11 massive games but every one of those games is winnable.

“I have the belief in this group of players that they can keep Bolton in the Premier League and then reap the rewards of all the hard work we are putting in place.

“To do that we need performances but we are not going to play Manchester City every week.

“If you look at the five teams (at the bottom) we have played all the top teams. I think QPR have still to play the top six.

“Every team has tough fixtures ahead of them. But some are more winnable than others and we believe we can take points from all the games we have got to play.”

Wanderers have lost their last four games in the league and have scored just once in their last five.

And while the pundits were lining up to write off his side’s chances after the latest defeat, Coyle remains steadfast in his belief that the Whites can escape the bottom three.

“I have always said that as long as we were still in touch after this difficult period, we would sort out our own fate and that will prove to be the case,” he said.

“We are set for 11 cup finals – six at home, five away – it is all there for us, and the lads are up for the challenge.”
