FORMER Wanderers target Gregg Wylde has become a free agent after leaving cash-strapped Glasgow Rangers yesterday.

The Scotland Under-21 international volunteered to waive a redundancy package offered by administrators at Ibrox and is now free to sign for a new club – which could well rekindle interest from the Whites.

Owen Coyle had a £400,000 bid rejected for the 20-year-old midfielder, who opted instead to sign a five-year contract with the SPL’s fallen giants during the summer.

But it is understood the Wanderers boss remains a fan of the Dunbartonshire-born player and could yet decide to offer him a swift return South of the Border.

Wylde, who owns five Under-21 caps, has scored two goals in 38 appearances for Rangers this season.

He took the decision to leave Rangers after admitting he was “losing sleep” during the club’s current financial predicament, which leaves administrators having to cut monthly bills by £1million.

But the youngster insisted no deal had been lined up to join another club and resume his career.

“I volunteered to walk with no redundancy package today to help the other people in the club who have families, like the kitchen staff,” he said.

“I offered to walk away yesterday and the club told me today that they would accept that offer.

“At the moment I have nowhere to go and I don’t have another club.

“I don’t know what is going to happen next but I thought it was important to play my part in saving Rangers.”

Some predict that Rangers may have to shed more playing staff, with three other players offering to walk away yesterday.

Sweden Under-21 international Mervan Celik also agreed to sever links with the club after administrators Duff and Phelps declined a proposal from the playing staff to defer their wages.
