KEVIN Davies is convinced Wanderers will keep their nerve to claim points over the final three games of their survival scrap.

The captain led by example with Saturday’s two goals which extended Bolton’s unbeaten run to three games.

They stay in the bottom three, but Davies insists the jitters will not prevent Wanderers achieving their goal of a 12th successive season in the top flight.

“I don’t think there are nerves,” he said. “One or two of the younger players haven’t been in this position but there are experienced players who have.

“We’ll see if it goes down to the wire. I’m sure we'll want six points from the two home games to come. We can’t affect what goes on elsewhere, but the other teams do have tough fixtures. It’ll be interesting but we’ll take care of our own shop and, hopefully, that will be enough.”

Wigan’s surprise victory at home to high-flying Newcastle United perhaps magnified the disappointment that Wanderers did not claim all three points at the Stadium of Light, where they dominated for long stretches of the game.

But Davies has warned against worrying about other results.

“It’s important we don’t bother with how the other teams are doing,” he said. “We’re unbeaten in the last three games and it’s vital we keep picking up points.

“It’s a little bit frustrating feeling we could have picked up more, but you look at the table and a few weeks ago we were four points adrift and now we’re right up amongst it.

“It’s going to be tight but we normally do well at home to Spurs – so now it’s all hands to the pump for a massive game.”

After taking his season’s tally to seven goals against the club who tried to sign him in January, Davies – out of contract in the summer – is making a strong finish to an often disappointing campaign.

“It’s been a difficult time for me, a little bit frustrating since Christmas,” he said. “Now I’m fighting to get back in the side and fighting to stay in the league.

“Regardless of who we were playing, everyone knows what I feel about Bolton Wanderers.

“I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure we stay in this league, as everyone in there will be.

“There were conversations that went on (about a transfer), it was all a bit last minute, but I don’t want to get into that. It’s in the past.

“I’ve been here for nine years and hopefully I can be around for one or two more years yet.”
