OWEN Coyle wants to make the Reebok Stadium a fortress this season to fire-up a promotion challenge.

After securing a first away win of the campaign at Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, Wanderers return to home soil looking to build on seven points from nine at the Reebok so far this season.

The boss knows that they need to perform more consistently and also need the home faithful to show patience if they are to string positive results together.

Coyle does believe the team is showing improvement after breaking their away duck with a 2-1 win at Hillsborough and knows they need to perform at the same level against Crystal Palace on Saturday and Leeds United three days later.

Coyle said: “We have shown at home, when we bring it all together, we can make the Reebok a real fortress.

“The way for us to help that is to win games and that’s our obligation, to get the fans smiling. We must stick together and drive each other on.

“I am realistic as a manager and understand there has been a sense of frustration.

“Immediately we want to be back to where we are used to and sitting at the top of this league.

“We have to understand we are only seven games into a 46-game season.

“There has been a lot of pleasing aspects but equally there are areas where we can improve.”

Coyle remains confident the Whites can be at the top challenging despite just three wins from their opening seven fixtures.

He insists having the right mental approach is key to success in the Championship.

The Scot added: “We have to have that focus, the mental side is a big thing in the Championship.

“The biggest thing at any level of football is winning matches.

“It gives you that feel-good factor.

“We showed that on Saturday and need to build on that.”
