Joe Root became England's third debutant in the Twenty20 series against India when he was chosen today to replace Danny Briggs for the second and final match at the Wankhede Stadium.

The young Yorkshire batsman, who began his Test career in England's series-clinching draw in Nagpur last week, is expected to fit in at number seven, with his occasional off-spin compensating for the absence of Briggs' frontline slow left-arm.

Eoin Morgan decided to field first under lights in England's 14th and last Twenty20 match of their 2012 schedule, which has contained 99 days of international cricket in all.

After their defeat in Pune, they have a chance to level the series and take their annual Twenty20 ratio to seven victories, six defeats and one no-result.

India replaced Ravindra Jadeja with specialist batsman Rohit Sharma.
