Murray, Mauresmo talks progressing

Talks between Andy Murray and Amelie Mauresmo are progressing well, the Scot's camp insist, and an announcement of an extended agreement could come early next week.

Murray initially appointed Mauresmo as his coach on a trial basis for the grass-court season but the intention was always for it to turn into a long-term deal provided both were happy.

Murray met Mauresmo at her rented house in London on Thursday, a day after the defence of his Wimbledon title came to an end with a quarter-final defeat by Grigor Dimitrov.

No agreement has yet been reached and details are still being ironed out but Murray is keen to sort the matter out before heading off to Miami at the end of next week for a training block.

The 27-year-old vowed to work harder and make improvements in his game following his meek loss to Dimitrov and, with a month until his next tournament, he sees this as a crucial period in his season.

Murray's camp, meanwhile, declined to comment on reports in various newspapers of disquiet among his team over Mauresmo's appointment.

It has been reported that Dani Vallverdu, Murray's long-time friend and assistant coach, was unhappy not to have been kept in the loop while fitness coach Jez Green was also said to be unsettled.

Stability is something Murray will be desperate to establish ahead of the US hard-court season, which culminates with the US Open at the end of August.

He had not foreseen the end of his partnership with Ivan Lendl, who told the Scot in March he no longer wanted to commit the same amount of time to the partnership.

Having spent almost three months searching for the right person, the last thing Murray will want is to have to go back to square one if he and Mauresmo cannot reach a deal.

The pair have spoken glowingly about each other over the past three weeks and certainly seemed to enjoy spending time together on the practice courts at Wimbledon.

Murray has often mentioned Mauresmo's calm approach, and the ball appears to be firmly in her court over how much time she is prepared to spend travelling on the tennis circuit.

She is also the French Fed Cup captain and will need to fit in her role with Murray around those duties.
