A WOULD-BE thief is caught red-handed on CCTV as he tries to break into a car.

These images were captured outside the home of the couple who live in Bury Road, Breightmet.

The first picture clearly shows a youth, wearing a shellsuit and black trainers, trying to slide something down the window of their car in a bid to open the door. He flees when his attempt fails.

The second picture was taken at the back of their home as a gang of youths tried to break in to their garage last year.

The face of one of the youths can be clearly seen in the CCTV image and police are now appealing for anybody who recognises him, or the first teenager, to get in touch.

The attempted break-in on the car took place at around 3.30am on July 6.

The homeowner, who asked not to be named, said his car had been targeted by criminals on five occasions and that his garage had been targeted twice.

“It’s just annoying. If we could afford to move we would do. It happens to the neighbours as well, but they seem to be more interested in the cars than anything else.

“I just hope somebody recognises them and contacts the police,” said the man, aged 29.

PC Graham Neil, of the Bolton East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It appears the couple have been targeted by would-be thieves on at least two occasions.

“I would urge anybody with any information about these incidents, or who believes they know the people in involved, to get in touch with the police as soon as possible.”

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5761 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
