WANDERERS’ hopes of signing Levante striker Mustapha Riga rest in the hands of the player’s lawyers.

The club are continuing to monitor the Dutchman’s efforts to terminate his contract in Spain, where he has not been paid in over nine months.

Cash-strapped Levante have rejected a bid of around £300,000 – but Wanderers are waiting on the progress of the player’s legal team before deciding whether to make another approach.

Riga is hoping to cancel the rest of his two-year deal at Levante by invoking FIFA Article 14 which states: “A contract may be terminated by either party without consequences of any kind (either payment of compensation or imposition of sporting sanctions) where there is just cause.”

His case will be heard by the Spanish FA over the next fortnight.

The dreadlocked striker scored 10 goals in league and cup last season despite Levante’s relegation to the Segunda Division.

He moved to Spain in 2005 after having netted 26 goals in 42 games for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch second flight.

Meanwhile, Hull City have turned their attention away from defender Abdoulaye Meite.

The Tigers have launched an official bid for Portsmouth’s Noe Pamarot, who was believed to be their back-up choice, after being priced out of the race for the Wanderers man.

Seen him play in Spain a number of times. He's quick and scores some explosive goals. Was playing in one of the liga's worst ever teams last season (think Derby County)yet knuckled down to the task. Maybe wouldn't be a first team regular but definite good addition to the squad.

Indeed Mike - credit where credit is due this is the first story in the BN for many months if not years where the information had not already been in the media elsewhere beforehand. I'm prepared to give the lad a chance if he's cheap - could be another Braaten ofcourse! He's got a bit of pace an eye for goal and more of an attacking midfielder than a striker - could be seen as an obvious replacement for Dioufy though ofcourse a poor man's replacement.

Totally agree ad_bwfc, I was beside myself when Steed Malbranque went to Spurs for 2.5 mill and we didn't even enquire when he became available. He's quality for sure, brilliant around the box, he creates or scores 20 goals a season. Get him Megson, NOW!

So far as I can see we have 4 pre-season games away from home. Is nothing planned for The Reebok, and if not, why not?

Glad to know it isn't just me who is completely peed off that we aren't in for Malbranque. It drives me crazy that Megson seems to have no interest in players with any skill. Have you noticed that nearly all the players we lost this summer had a decent touch? Campo, Stelios, Andranik, Braaten, Guthrie, Alonso. Brum fans say Muamba can't pass water. The shape of things to come I'm afraid. By the way my security code for this post was 'long team' - says it all really. A long ball team.

I know and certainly anyone connected with the club knows that Riga has already signed a contract with Bolton. This line that we will know in a fortnight is nonesense. HE HAS SIGNED AND THAT IS FACT.
