GARY Megson believes Wanderers' second-half performance at Manchester United can spur his side on in their fight for Premier League survival.

The Bolton manager was encouraged by the Whites' display after Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice in the opening 20 minutes at Old Trafford.

The Premiership strugglers could not overturn the two-goal deficit, but Megson is adamant they can take the positives into Saturday's home clash with Manchester City.

"There is cause for optimism, especially if we play like we played in the second half," he said. "We had more shots on goal tonight than in an away game for a long time.

"We've now got to do it again between now and the end of the season."
