‘Bolton had more men than us’

ROY Keane reckons Wanderers were more streetwise than his Sunderland team and fully deserved the victory that virtually preserved their Premier League status.

In an often cagey game, Wanderers had that little bit more quality in key areas and dominated possession while creating the better chances.

And Keane believes that is down to Wanderers' experience of the Premiership - something his side have yet to achieve.

"Credit to Bolton, I never criticise a team that beats us," said Keane.

"Bolton played to their strengths and made it hard for us. They have been in the Premiership for the last seven years, and I think we saw that today.

"They just had that little bit more experience, particularly in the middle of the park. They had more men in their team.

"We need to learn to get results when we are not playing well. I can't remember one occasion this year when we have got out of jail. Every point we have got we have had to scrap for it."

Keane was scathing in this assessment of his own team's performance, and promised to make changes in the summer to make sure next season's Premier League campaign is more successful than this one.

"We need to improve - we have got to learn from performances like today. We have lost 22 games this season, and some people are saying we have had a good season. To lose 22 games in a season, I am lucky to be in a job.

"You learn about your players all the time, and this confirmed what I have been thinking for a while - that we are short.

"I made three substitutions today, and I could have made 10.

"There will be changes in the summer. I'm sick of saying the same things week in week out.

"If you tell a player to do something three times, and they don't do it you get shot of them. I've been very patient and very kind to some of my players. Maybe this result was a good thing. This confirms we need more players and more quality.

"Today we were giving the ball away constantly when there was nobody within 20 yards of us. It was unacceptable."

I see Marc reads the sunday papers too.
Not sure it's ethical to copy word for word though.

Keane's dreaming if he thinks Sunderland havent won any games where they havent played well. For one, they were awful when beating us at Xmas (except Jones). They've had countless last minute winners, compared to our 1 all season. As bad as we've been, that's down to our negative manager, whereas Sunderland have a good manager but awful players. They are as lucky as us to have stopped up.

Fantstic results in the last couple of weeks, I have no hair and nails left but at least I won some $$$ from some of the soccer fans over here in NZ that said we would go down and I bet we would stay up and Brum would join Fulham and go down with Derby, Not sure about Fulham now and to be honest I think they deserve to stay up with us. Its great to be a Bolton Fan over here on the other side of the world, "Born to be a wanderer victorious are we". I agree with the majority of fans, we must play our last game at Chelskieeee whilst the fans can have a party and celebrate for a change. Its been hard watching from afar so I can imagine what its been like over there. Good on all those fans who have stuck with the club through a difficult season. I wish you all a safe and happy summer. Come on you Whites !!!!

i think megson needs help on the attacking front, he's sured us up defensively, maybe appointing a new assistant manager, with a few new ideas.

alan shearer turned down newcastle as he said he couldnt be number two to keegan, but he wants experience, why not put in a cheeky bid to make him assistant, he certainly could help us if we made the right offer

the problem is the man is too pig headed to acknowledge his mistakes. hell never change his style to anything more attacking. hes already said this season he refuses to play 2 up front because he thinks any attacking benefit will instantly be ruled out by having one man less back to defend

with megson in charge we are going nowhere. we wont get relegated, because the teams coming up are so bad, but we are just going to languish and be spoon fed bwfc's propaganda that finishing just outside the relegation zone and not even giving the cups a go represents a good season

You should really credit the newspaper you stole this article from.

Idiot Keane changed 3 players at once some 15 mins after Jonny Evans pulled his right thigh muscle. It was obvious he had done it and the rest of the team were playing around him; every time he kicked the ball he winced with pain and rubbed the muscle.Off came the 3 players, on went the 3 subs and 10 seconds later Evans calls over to Keane indicating his leg had gone.Cue Keane sticking his arms out, palms upturned and shrugging his shoulders. No wonder they will end the season having lost over 60% of their games, what a shower.
Alan Shearer has a deep seated hatred of Bolton probably based on the number of kickings he had at the Reebok and Burnden Park. Let his stay on the "never to manage" settee at the BBC.

credit keane he gave us credit for our victory unlike bad loser curbishley, keane will go far in management with that attitude, after the 3 subs they improved, wasnt an easy game to win.

Bolton had more men than us?
Err...no Roy, we had eleven each, plus three from five subs.
If you still think it was uneven, you could have a go at reporting us....
but you would look silly.
