Megson praises Captain Fantastic

GARY Megson has hailed Kevin Nolan as the major force in Wanderers' great escape.

The Bolton boss says his trusty captain's leadership qualities have been key to the team's dramatic transformation from relegation favourites to survival "certs" in the space of just four weeks.

And in his most glowing testimonial yet of the 25-year-old midfielder, he said: "I never, ever want to play a football match, while I am here, without Kevin Nolan."

He has been superb since he returned, and if it wasn't for Diouf's last game at the Reebok on Saturday, the press would have focussed on his performance. Just needs to get back on the goal trail!!

Is it just me or are Megsons comments OTT?.

Here we go again - same old, same old. Your turn Kev in the reciprical love in.

I hope Megson is passing some of this praise onto Kevin Davies aswel,he runs hiself into the ground in every game he plays!!.

Nolan's form this season has not been up to his previous best but he is a fantastic leader & the team always plays better with him in it. In a Sky interview a few games back he said that as captain he would "go down with the ship" if Bolton were relegated. I only wish that we had more players as loyal & passionate about the club as Kevin Nolan.
Posted by: matty_c, Bolton on 9:58pm Tue 6 May 08
both davies and nolan should get a mention as both have always given 110% in every game which is an example for young english kids to follow and i would like to think that even if we did go down both would stay

i think its been down 2 nobby & the players keepin us up this season not negson..........

Good move getting Nolan on his side - win him over and you win the team. Still reckon he and Cahill run the show in the recent games and that the team largely ignored Megson. Was same on Saturday - he was shouting and ranting and then turned away totally frustarted as the lads continued to ignore him - watched it after the game and saw it on the Setanta as well - anyone else notice that.

Kevin Nolan has been a superb captain of Bolton Wanderers since taking over from Jay Jay he has fantastic footballing qualities but more importantly he is a gutsy, feisty leader who never gives in.
Long may he reign.

i actually like nolan, he seems to be concentrating more on his game than arguing with officials, seems to be over the worst of what was a very bad patch form wise.

L.O.L. Was every one not saying what a lazy bum he was before and just after Xmas.Truth being told his form did improve the last few games(thank god). But for me its Davis who impresses me,not the best player in the prem, but one of the hardest workers.
Well done to the whole team on a season to forget.

I agree, where's Muppets praise for Davies. The hardest working player we've had for the past few seasons. Unsung hero.

Nolan and Davies are the heartbeat but we need the flair that has disappeared from the side , ie a Youri or a Jay Jay.To many average players,we need a clear out and buy in proper quality this summer, for a change. We has all the money gone again, into that black hole called Big Phil's pockets!

Hi Everyone, the seasons not yet over. Who's going to join me at Old Trafford on the 12th May K.O. 7.30pm to cheer on the wandrers 'reserves' in the Senior Cup Final? Last chance to win some silverware this season and get one over the scum!

Forgot to mention, the ginger Muppet of course will have nothing to do with the team selection or indeed the tactics, so we may get to see some half decent football.

Nolan and Davies are the type of players every team needs.
Unfortunately neither have star quality.
They work hard, are passionate, and inspire others.
Diouf is the last of the 5 star real quality player we have at the club (Campo is past his sell buy date).
Against Sunderland he was head and shoulders above anyone on the park.
He stood out like a sore thumb, and that goal won us the game.
At the end of the season he will follow the likes of Youri, Jay Jay,Fredi Bobic and Anelka through the Reebok door.
The question is who can Megson get in to give us hope next season.
We need someone at the club who is star quality,to give the fans something to look forward to seeing every week.

os, for all different reasons they have gone/will be gone, megson believes in a team ethic, not individual flair/talent, he may deny it but his record proves it, as a manager he has failed at norwich, blackpool,st
oke, stockport, notts forest, had started unravelling leicester, and ultimately west brom were he fell out with everybody as he did at stockport were he was after another job. so far here its been littered with fall outs, with fans and players, maybe some of the them need a kick up the arsse (players) but megson isnt the man to do it, theyd probably kick him back.

Yes, next season could be a long, boring season with this cretin in charge!
Good managers get on with it, bad managers balloon about what insignificance they have achieved, don't you Gary?
Posted by: Chris Manning, Gotham City PD on 9:22am Wed 7 May 08
Same old Nolan. Not good enough.

Sorry Mugson, I understand you have to back your captain, but there is NO evidence to support this ludicrous claim.

We were lucky that our wins all came against teams with very little motivation and not a great deal to play for - hence our points.

We might have survived this year, but if anyone thinks that next year will be anything but more of the same then they are delusional.

He has to go.

BWFC-TIL, you been on the happy pills? He will never be better than somewhere between loser and average.

Agree with you on Davies. Amazing how many awards he has won since he's been here, yet Mr Blobby who gets praised to the hilt never gets anything from supporters, players or local press. Still, suppose they must all be stupid !!!

Busy few weeks for me so might sign off till next season. Best wishes to BWFC-TIL, Trotter, Jacko, Charlotte, Pedro, a whole host of Andys and everyone else who has put up with my rants since last May. Joanna, good luck with the report this weekend, look forward to reading.

The only thing that can be said is do you trust him to get the best players for our club in the transfer market, when the money has been spent we will be left with the players for the season. The main problem is that we have not got money to waste and you may say look at Cahill, Taylor and Steinson and they have potential however, Cahill and Taylor were third forth choice players for their clubs and we paid the money. Look at our third forth choice players and what sort of money would we receive also look at Rasiak and Cohen not to say they were bad buys the fact is they are bad players and we have better yet they were played before the quality players. I hope he is the best manager since sliced bread however, his brand of football is not for me and the overall results are not good enough either at our club or his previous clubs. Maybe I just want more than a lot of fans because just avoiding relegation more by luck than good management is not up to standard and treating the fans who traveled to Portugal with the reserves is one thing however, when the fans sang for the entire game for the manager to do a 50 meter dash down the tunnel and not to acknowledge the support is beyond me.

This time I'll stand back, that humble pie didn't taste too good. :)

hahahaha, ur right gazz !!! im not defending this time though im just stating that he's here to stay and throughout football at any club the fans have never got there way anyway. no matter how loud they shout!! look at chelsea and citeh. (mourinho and sven).. might aswell chill out, see who he brings in over the summer and see what the opening 10 games brings.. (30 points i hope :-) )... the alternative is continual bickering amongst us, p155 ourselves and others right off and go to bed with a headache!!!!

If Megson is to stay, then make sure we back him with plenty of cash & see what he can do!.Lets see some ambition after years of penny pinching, its about time we backed the manager after giving Sam nowt for 8 years!!.

Yeah lets back one of the worst managers in the country with all our money. sounds just the right thing to do.

8 million for Taylor and Steinsson! they haven't really improved the team we had.

cahill looks quality though. He does need a better quality defender alongside him though. somebody he can learn the good habits off.

not convinced A O'brien is the right man for the job. Makes alot of basic errors and only performes well when the whole team defends, which makes our attacking ability next to nil.

With respect to Megson , couple of points, first of all , January signings , Think he has bought a top class player in Cahill , Steinsson looks decent , Taylor still to show his best form but not a bad buy. Cohen is crap as is Rasiak. The latter was a padding out player , we didn't need him as Helguson is similair , another bad buy! although bought by Sammy Lee.In the last 4 games we have had some luck whereas before hand i would say we had none.By that i mean Portsmouth at home , Wigan away (off the line x 2 , one by a hand ball as well) , they are games that instantly spring to mind. Megson lost Anelka , due to the chairman , not him , then we don't buy a replacement for him , was that Megson's doing? , we don't know that.I suspect Gartside is behind that one.Megson needs to be able to spend money and buy quality. What we don't need is another summer of fannying about with crappy loanees and bargin buys. We have to spend to get the right players in.As for this Sheff U centre back , think it's paper talk , he was linked in January as well. What i will say is if we retain Megson which looks highly likely now , then Gartside needs to give him the money for the players. The squad does not have to be as big as last year as we are not in Europe and probably won't be again.Spend it wisely on quality with a smaller squad and back that with the right training/coaching staff. If we do not spend money as previous years , then i can see the ticket sales plummeting.I for one will wait to see if we buy the players , even if i miss the early bird promotion.I am not paying out a grand to watch the squad of this campaign.Players out , Campo , Stelios , Diouf , Cohen , Rasiak , Helguson , Bratten and Alonso. That will free up some squad room for a start!

Cahill & Steinsson are both good players, all i say is make sure whoever the manager is give him money to spend!!.The one thing about Morgan is he will run through a brick wall for the team,so he gets my vote!!.

If megson had any backbone at all he should NOT have agreed to let Anelka without a decent replacement as a done deal. You're either a "yes" manager or an "I'll stamp my mark" manager. LSL was definitely the former, the Anelka fiasco suggests that Megson tends to be the same - but lets give the pudding the benefit of the doubt for 10 real games (in fact we have no choice on that one other than through an act of god)

i dont think there is a striker who would be willing to accept the terms of ' well our top scorer might be leaving so we'll buy you but if not you'll have to stay where you are'
