Statto Man
THE most comprehensive record of Wanderers matches has been compiled by a fan who now lives in Milton Keynes - and rarely goes to a game.
Statto Man Nigel Sheppard's super website has every result from the 1881-82 season with easy to find stats on players, attendances, opposition - and, of course. the score.
Here Nigel explains how it all happened:
My first game was at Burnden Park in 1969/70 against Carlisle United. It was
an uninspiring 0-0 draw but it hooked me for life. I've been to over 330
Bolton games since but the most I've seen in a season was when we got
relegated to the Fourth Division when I got to 30 games travelling from
Milton Keynes.
Bolton Wanderers Supporters Club (London) started meeting in about 1984 and
I started the Trotter which included articles which gave the history of all
results against particular clubs. To make my life easier I typed all the
information into a database in the early 90s and then transcribed it into a
web site in the mid 90s. Nowadays it probably takes me about 10 minutes to
update after each game and a full season update for appearances etc takes a
few hours during the summer break.
I probably only get to about 1 game per season nowadays but my son & I go
watching MK Dons. They remind me of Bolton in the 80s i.e. useless!"
Nigel is pictured receiving the Syd Farrimond
trophy from Phil Neal & the man himself. He says: "My wife says I now have far less
hair and it is all grey!"
