SAMMY Lee took his summer signings into double figures with the capture of Rosenborg's Norwegian international Daniel Braaten for £500,000 and Jussi Jaaskelainen ended speculation over his immediate future, promising to see out the final year of his contract.
But Wanderers kicked off their seventh successive season of Premiership football as hot favourites to be relegated and with Lee favourite to win the sack race.
There could not have been a more poignant opening game - at home to Newcastle and the Reebok return of Sam Allardyce.

It was a stunner for Lee, who saw Newcastle score three goals in 16 chaotic first half minutes before running out 3-1 winners. And the day was further blighted by the continuing feud between Allardyce and Phil Gartside, who rounded on his former manager in a radio interview.
A nightmare start - three defeats in eight days - left Lee desperately fighting fires: defending his own position, admitting he might lose Nicolas Anelka before the transfer deadline and signing Andy O'Brien from Portsmouth to plug the leaks in his defence - a situation exacerbated by the sale of Abdoulaye Faye to Newcastle.
But a traumatic month ended with a 3-0 victory over Reading - Lee's first win as Wanderers' manager - and Anelka signing a lucrative new, four-year contract.
