Handrail laws

11:20am Tuesday 9th February 2010

AFTER all the recent publicity regarding health and safety, I would like to know why football stadiums and theatres are not required to have handrails to aid people to get uo and down stairs. In the event of someone tripping, they in turn could cause others to fall who then would be liable if injuries resulted.

Killer reward

11:21am Tuesday 9th February 2010

I WOULD like to offer a £50 reward leading to the conviction of the sad culprit who tortured and shot the two cats featured in the paper last week.

Why can’t we have cigarette cafes?

11:15am Tuesday 9th February 2010

IT is with absolute disbelief that I write this letter.

Expenses: Time to prosecute all MPs

11:16am Tuesday 9th February 2010

THE CPS is only taking to court, as yet, three MPs and a Peer in the expenses scandal — marvellous. Why not all of the MPs who have paid money back? Would I get away with it if I walked out of shop without paying, getting caught and saying, ‘OK you’ve caught me, so now I'll pay?’ I don’t think so.

Beware of rubbish you take to tip

11:17am Tuesday 9th February 2010

WITH regard to the recent protest by residents of Lindisfarne Place, Tonge Moor, regarding non-collection of their rubbish (The Bolton News, January 27).

‘Factory profit making academies'

11:19am Tuesday 9th February 2010

TOM Hanley’s letter (January 27), asking for more details about academies from the council is concise and worthy of an honest answer, but, of course you cannot use the word honesty when dealing with politicians, as they prefer the word spin, or being economical with the truth.

Problem tenants

11:19am Tuesday 9th February 2010

I AM writing at the injustice for householders who have to tolerate undesirable rent tenants moving in and out of a property that is nextdoor, be it through an agency or private rental. There are no protection rights for residents and it is time the law had a legal body to protect all residents in this situation.

Obesity: Upset by attack on parents

11:07am Tuesday 9th February 2010

IN response to Mr Derbyshire’s recent letter about obese children and his attack on parents, which I found slightly offensive.

What chance of tax freeze?

11:07am Tuesday 9th February 2010

FOUR of the ten constituent parts of Greater Manchester have announced the council tax rates.

Who will pay after election?

11:09am Tuesday 9th February 2010

SO we’re out of recession? Really? A whopping 0.1 per cent growth, politicians gallop about quoting figures, and media pundits babble pseudo economics.
