It is usually photos of the exterior of Bolton’s old buildings which bring back memories for Looking Back readers but we suspect many of you might recognise this interior shot.
Taken in October 1969, it shows the foyer of the Odeon Cinema in Bolton.
Situated on the corner of Ashburner Street and Black Horse Street, the Odeon opened in 1937 and was one of the largest cinemas in the North West at the time.
Getting your ‘concessions’ such as sweets and a drink have always been part of the cinema-going experience and for film lovers in 1969 this would be where they queued for their refreshments.
Compared to modern cinemas, it’s not the most well-stocked selection by the looks of things and the foyer itself is very staid. No posters and giant cut-out characters here.
Do you remember the Odeon when it was like this?
The last films were screened at the Odeon in 1983. It became a Mecca Bingo hall which closed in 2004 and was demolished in 2007.
