Jonson Clarke-Harris says it was an “easy decision” to return to Rotherham as they prepare for life back in League One.

Clarke-Harris joins the Millers on a free transfer from Peterborough, putting pen to paper over a two-year deal at the New York Stadium.

The 29-year-old has been described as a “marquee signing” as Rotherham aim to bounce back from relegation from the Championship with a measly 27 points. He won back-to-back Golden Boot awards in the third tier after joining Posh in the summer of 2020.

Clarke-Harris will now link up with Steve Evans, who initially signed him from Oldham in 2014 for a then club record fee.

Evans returned to the Rotherham dugout last month after guiding Stevenage to the fringes of the play-offs. He succeeds Leam Richardson in the hot seat, who was sacked after less than six months in charge.

“I spoke to the boss recently and he told me he wanted to bring me to the club. He knows what I think of him,” Clarke-Harris told the club website.

“I've spoken to him on numerous occasions since I left here when I was young. It's an absolute pleasure to come back to the Millers and work with him again.

“The boss was a big factor in me coming back, it was massive for me. The mutual respect is there.

“I've got a lot of time for him and we get along. I know what I'm getting from him as a manager. I'm looking forward to experiencing it again.”

The forward added: “I'm pleased to be back. It was an easy decision for me, I had to go out and play games after I had a terrible injury when I was first here. I feel like I've got unfinished business.”
