It is with great sadness that I read of the death of Bob.
He was a dedicated and hard working politician committed to serving Bolton, As firstly, Borough Treasurer and then Chief executive, I worked with Bob quite closely. Although he kept his emotions generally out of public sight, beneath the surface was a kind and caring person who showed sympathy and understanding of people and families who faced difficulty or disability. In terms of the politician /officer role he was one of the few politicians that appreciated an officer saying to him what the officer felt he needed to hear rather than t what the politician wanted to hear.
