GLEAVE Alice On July 1, 2022, peacefully in Wingates Residential Home, fortified by the rites of the Holy Mother Church and of Westhoughton, Alice aged 90 years. Loving daughter of the late William and Sarah and dear sister to the late James. Alice was a history teacher at Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School. Requiem Mass will be offered at the Sacred Heart RC Church, Westhoughton on Friday July 22 at 10.00am followed by interment in Westhoughton Cemetery. She was a first class history teacher at Rivington & Blackrod Grammar School and, outside of the classroom, could be very amusing.
She encouraged reading around the subject and was on top of her game teaching A level.

I was a pupil at Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School in the 1960's and Miss Gleave was my history teacher. She taught her subject with amazing knowledge and enthusiasm and I am indebted to her for my life long love of history (and my grade 1 at GCE!)
A lovely, kind teacher.
