RECRUITMENT OF INDEPENDENT PERSONS ADVERT
The Council Is seeking to recruit Independent Persons to assist with Member standards Work. We are looking for someone with an interest in maintaining high standards in public life and an interest in local governance, to act as a Reserve Independent Person to assist our Monitoring Officer and Standards Committee with their work. The Council has a duty to promote and maintain high standards of conduct of its Councillors and is required to appoint an Independent Person to assist the Council in promoting this and dealing with complaints about Councillors. The role involves being called on and as when to assist with complaints and may amount to a few hours each month. The Independent Person has to be independent of the Council and someone cannot be appointed to this role if they are a Councillor, co-opted Councillor or officer or a Parish Councillor within the Wigan Council area, or been this within the last 5 years. You also cannot be a close friend or relative of a Councillor.
Appointments will be for four years. Independent Persons are paid at an hourly rate of £30 per hour together with reimbursement of travel and subsistence expenses and reasonable role related training costs.
