Horwich RMI Harriers fell runners were cheered to hear that the M40 team have won the English Fell Running Championships team bronze medal behind Calder Valley and Helm Hill.

The run of success for the Horwich RMI Harriers rolls on as two of the club’s women raised the bar with performances that will take them to world championship events across the globe, writes David Barnes.

HORWICH’S Nick Leigh proved he is back to his best form with an impressive second place at the Heptonstall fell race over 15 miles and 3,100 feet of ascent.

IT may have been a last hurrah or just a case of ‘keep calm and carry on running’ as Horwich RMI Harriers turned out in strength at several events over the weekend.

THE Trotters 5-mile trail race staged by Burnden Road Runners is a perennial favourite race and as it features in the Harriers’ club championships this year there was a bumper turnout of 12 Horwich runners for the event around the Smithills estate.

ENGLISH 200m champion Sophie Walton brought home a silver medal at the same distance in the England Athletics Indoor Age Group Championships 200m at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Sheffield.

THE prospect of Storm Dennis did its best to decimate the race fixtures but a small number of races survived and featured nice performances from Horwich RMI Harriers.

STORM Ciara held off until Sunday but Windy Hill was still definitely gusty on Saturday for the fell race.

IT is always a proud moment in an athlete’s career to achieve representative honours and several of the Harriers’ juniors did just that in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships at Heaton Park.
