Osteoporosis doesn't just affect women. It's also a man thing.

ALTHOUGH osteoporosis (or brittle bone disease) is well known and lots are being constantly written in the popular press all the time, the female victims of the disorder are usually discussed. True the condition is more common in women, especially after the ‘change of life’ it must also be remembered that men are not totally immune to this. And as the health of men is receiving more attention perhaps one should look into this condition among men.

I am totally against use of strong medications on somewhat flimsy grounds

IT is widely accepted that ‘preventive’ measures, where feasible are fully acceptable and indeed desirable for general benefit. Identifying clinically ‘yet unexpressed ’ ailments eg breast and cervical cancer are useful and do save lives in many cases. However one must decide what is possible and what is probable. For example it is possible there might be an earthquake any time anywhere but that is not very probable in the UK. Whilst it is extremely probable that there will be rains in Lancashire during the months of December and January.

Care in crisis or crisis in care?

THERE are three important facets of health service — prevention, cure and care. Whilst most of the time people talk about ‘’cure’’ — ‘care’ also is extremely important as often care is an essential adjunct of cure. Care, however, is the most expensive area, whilst ‘prevention’, where feasible, is the cheapest.
