THE extra Government cash for Bolton to help fight anti-social behaviour problems is very welcome.

But I'm sure it worried many people across the borough that the words "deprived areas" was the qualification for action.

As a quick glance at comments on The Bolton News' website will reveal, many parts of the town that do not qualify for this tag suffer from the regular effects of gangs of noisy youths damaging property and frightening residents.

People who live in places like Bradshaw, Heaton and Lostock will tell you that the problem is often just as acute there, but it looks like nothing extra is to be done.

Where I live, they even travel in from other areas to meet up and share the "delights" of their anti-social behaviour with neighbouring communities.

Unfortunately, only when the police are given more resources and the courts more power, and there is an improvement in young leisure facilities like skate parks - plus more cash for youth services - will much change.
