IWOULD like to pose a question: is Bolton Council morally bankrupt?
I am one of the people who received a letter concerning compensation under equal pay. Following it up, I was told there was a deadline of six months in which to put in a claim, and that I had missed it.
I did not know anything about compensation until the letter came, too late, so how was I to know about a claim?
A spokesperson for Bolton Council said in The Bolton News (December 29): "The council does not have a specific responsibility to inform staff about their rights in this area."
It may not be a legal responsibility, but surely it is a moral one?
Frank White, executive member for human resources, discussed this matter in council, so other councillors knew of the situation.
So I ask another question: If they were not responsible for informing their staff, surely Frank White the councillor, along with other councillors, had a responsibility to their constituents? The employees involved are someone's constituents.
