WITH the successful delivery of The Bolton News petition to No 10, hopefully the situation for local rail passengers will get better.

But will it? According to a TV news programme, when the Manchester to Liverpool electric line is switched on next year, they will have nothing to run on it.

So what makes us think full electrification on the Bolton route will offer a better passenger service?

I am not aware of any planned new build of any new electric units, locos or rolling stock.

This to me doesn’t add up to a better service or even potential for it. The local MPs, The Bolton News and any other organisation should keep pressure on this one and give it plenty of publicity to get a result.
