A CLOSE relative of mine lives in Oakley Park, off Chorley New Road, Heaton.
On a visit last week I was astounded to encounter road signs warning "ramp ahead" and large areas of Tarmac cut away in readiness for re-surfacing.
Now, anyone familiar with this quiet suburban lane will know that there are only 20 odd homes down there with very light traffic use; residents and visitors alike drive quietly and cautiously.
I visit twice a week and hadn’t even noticed any potholes. My relative and some neighbours also think this work is unnecessary.
However, I drove along the Farnworth end of Plodder Lane, a road which must see hundreds of vehicles every hour, and the surface is in an appalling state, as are many of the roads across the borough.
Horsefield Street in Deane is now just one continuous pothole and has been for the last few years! Who requested the Oakley Park roadworks and who gave the go-ahead?
