RECENTLY, residents in Bradshaw Road have become concerned about the speed of vehicles.
Last year Bolton Council renewed worn road markings from Slack Lane up to the Bury boundary. They then surface-dressed this road and had to do the road markings again at a cost of thousands of pounds.
Following a letter from an irate resident, Cllr David Chadwick gave an explanation. He mentioned many factors — the gradient from Watling Street to Bradshaw Meadows, sharp bends, dangerous drivers, slippery conditions during adverse weather, etc.
He also said the road had a poor recent accident record — 53 accidents, two fatalities, with 51 people injured. This does not include non-reported accidents.
Following a recent attempt by residents asking the council for action on amending some speed limits, a council spokesman said there is no accident data to support this request!
Would this person identify themselves and explain why they have done a complete U-turn.
Perhaps the police could also explain why they are unwilling to use speed radar on some sections of this road. What about the health and safety of residents? The council and the police who seem to be “passing the buck”.
