WITH reference to the report, "Anger at plan for campsite" (The Bolton News, January 4).
I was astounded to read that Bolton Council's tourism officer, Barbara Howarth, is backing the plan.
Bearing in mind that a tourist is one who travels for pleasure, the proposed campsite is, in my view, totally unsuitable.
The green land off Bankfield Street, Ringley, is close to a company manufacturing adhesives, the site has overhead high voltage power cables and is within 250m of a sewage works, which produces unpleasant smells at times. This treatment works is being extended.
The traffic along Fold Road, which is near the proposed tourist spot, can reach dangerous levels.
I have seen traffic gridlocked on a number of occasions when parents park their cars and then collect their children from St Saviour's Primary School.
The situation is exacerbated by tankers and HGVs.
Without doubt, the proposed planning application should be rejected.
