THE latest idea from the local council to charge for parking in our parks has appalled me. The aim is to raise around £30,000. What about the costs?
1. Installation of machines and regular emptying.
2. Traffic wardens to check and maintain such machines - surely they are a temptation for vandalism in darkened areas?
I have a proposal which would please most Boltonians.
Up to 100 free parking places in the town centre are provided for councillors and senior local government officials. The councillors receive adequate reimbursement, and the local officials are paid large salaries - our chief executive earns just £30,000 less than our Prime Minister!
They can all well afford to pay some parking charges - it is a remarkable perk to know you always have a parking spot in the town centre.
