THE news that 'long-distance' Westhoughton Cllr Sean Harkin is to quit his seat next year due to living 80 miles away, only emphasises Labour's hypocritical attitude towards the electorate.
He is to continue drawing his £11,000 allowance whilst effectively disenfranchising local taxpayers in Westhoughton North and Chew Moor, which also raises at the time of further local 'cuts' that we should perhaps reduce the number of councillors across Bolton, as we could certainly manage without Cllr. Harkin now. This is only the latest example of Bolton Labour's 'arrogance of power' with their leader's disgraceful 'put-down' in the council chamber of Conservative councillor Walsh's acceptable suggestion to reinstate the 'Bolton, Lancs.' identity. More importantly I wonder if the Bolton News will continue pressing the Labour Council on our behalf as to who their mystery councillor is who neglected to pay their council tax — as they all seem to hope it will go away and that the electorate will forget. I've some bad news for the, we haven't!
