Through the letters page I would like to convey thanks for the Christmas tree and star in Kearsley this year.
Bolton has its extravagant snow slide, Christmas trees and lights and Farnworth too has a wonderful display of lights and trees. Now Kearsley too has something to be proud of at Christmas with a Community Tree, Nativity display and a Star.
Several years ago the Council in its wisdom stopped providing a community Christmas tree in Kearsley. So last year a local business provided a tree and volunteers erected it and dressed it with lights. The tree was sited in the grounds of Kearsley Mount Methodist Church who provided the power supply and security along with a nativity display. This year I have been privileged to be part of a team of volunteers which have erected an illuminated Star on top of St Stephens CE church tower.
Neil Turner and Jamie Arden deserve special thanks for the star and tree respectively and supported by friends they are a credit to their generation.
It has been a big boost to the community and a true example of the Christmas spirit which is being broadcast across the community by our new beacon, the star.
