AS is the case with all Labour Group pronouncements, Councillor Chadwick somewhat over-eggs the pudding in his reply to Chris Green’s letter.

It does contain elements of truth and even, in places, common sense, but elsewhere his vision for the bright future for Bolton teeters as always between wishful thinking and fantasy.

I would in particular like to point out that the new commercial units (restaurant and café) are in fact to be just empty spaces offered to a commercial operator as yet unidentified.

To equip and rig out these spaces would require such an operator to spend the thick end of £100,000 before he even started. Further to this, in order to create the outside terraces we would have to start knocking holes in the front of the building.

As far as the Albert Hall entertainment room is concerned, the future for this venue is limited by seating capacity. Other than massively increasing the ticket prices we will still in five years be watching the likes of Showaddywaddy.

Let us be realistic. In the long term and providing Labour do NOT win the General Election in May, then, perhaps, the vacated Council buildings will eventually have new owners.

In the meantime, everything is still cursed by the lunatic parking contract which was signed a few years ago.
