THERE has simply got to be a better way of making Bolton's main roads safer than reducing them to one lane.
Crompton Way is the latest to be earmarked for this but it's hard to see how anyone who has witnessed rush-hour gridlock at Moss Bank Way - similarly down to one lane over a lengthy section - can agree with this.
We must cut accidents and help residents to cross roads, but limiting our busiest arteries to single lines of traffic surely creates more problems than it solves.
Residents are not just pedestrians but often car-drivers as well. Road management must be about ensuring they can move about relatively easily and safely at all times.
