WHY is it that the Labour Government in Bolton thinks that slowing all traffic down will make life better?
I am referring, of course, to the proposal to change the stretch of Crompton Way from two lanes to one and reducing the speed limit from 40 to 30mph.
Are we destined to only be able to drive at 20mph because all the single lane roads are blocked with traffic and we are all having to resort to rat-runs which are full of chicanes, speed bumps and have speed cameras enforcing a 20mph limit?
We need to think rationally here.
More space on the roads means more traffic volume can flow, and a decent speed moves the traffic to its destination quicker.
I will fully support traffic calming measures outside schools etc, but there is a point at which we must change the strategy.
What about more crossroads, better education to pedestrians, and roadside railings, to name but a few ideas?
