I HAVE been glancing through an informative 40 page document issued in 2008 entitled: "Town Hall Conservation Area" which is awash with "Bolton's Pride" and clearly states that the Town Hall and Civic Centre/Crescent are Grade Two listed buildings.

The whole area including Victoria Square and Cheadle Square are conservation areas.

I am absolutely appalled, disgusted and cannot comprehend the intended heinous plans conjured up by the council which is betraying the trust of the proud people of Bolton.

The Town Hall and Civic Centre/Crescent are irreplaceable, iconic buildings of architectural grandeur, bequeathed by our forefathers and should be protected for future generations.

They must not be hidden from view and any plans for Cheadle Square should be aborted now.

My late husband always professed with pride when we approached the famous arches, that his father helped to build The Crescent in the 1930s.

Why try to emulate cities such as Cambridge? We can't even gain City Status and never will until "Boarded UP" gateway to South East Bolton exists. There's ample room for a student village there.
